“Şimdi heißt jetzt” (Şimdi means now) is the title of a non-fiction book that we published on April 6, 2020, collectively with Maviblau at Slanted Publishing House, Germany. It contains 15 stories by different authors, which deal with todays everyday life in Turkey (mostly Istanbul).

Topically, the spectrum ranges from public transport and hospital visits to the education system. It is also about the sense of time in the country, how to deal with terror and death, and the use of social media. Almost all the texts are on the one hand subjectively told, but on the other hand they are richly backed up with facts. In this way we have attempted to offer the readers of “Şimdi heißt jetzt” a multi-layered (but of course not complete) picture of modern Turkish society.

A second focus of the book are the  illustrations by Eva Feuchter, which are not to be understood as a supplement to the respective stories. They form a graphic story of Istanbul that can be read on its own. Eva’s impressions have been used to create elaborate pictures, which sometimes take up the space of an entire page, but at other times almost silently weave themselves into the stories from Istanbul. Besides two text contributions I was also responsible for the organisation of the project. The book “Şimdi heißt jetzt” is published by Slanted Publishing and  can be ordered online. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we had to postpone a reading journey planned in Germany for an indefinite time. But we will definitely make up for it. More informations and pictures of the book can also be found  at Maviblau.com.
